Shadows of the Ivory

A Woman’s Incredible Journey to Learn About a Life Lost Halfway Around the World

For many of us, travel is about personal growth and finding oneself. That is surely the case with Maryline Anna Roux.  Raised in France, Maryline knew very little of her past which was never talked about.  Born in Cote D’Ivore, much of her life remained a secret.  All she knew for sure was that she left her birthplace after one year through a trade.  Her French father had gifted her African grandparents a rifle and a sewing machine leading her to believe she had been tossed aside by her mother, traded like goods much like the ivory trade that plagues the area.

Many years later, Maryline sets out on a quest to find her birth mother and unravel the mystery surrounding her early years.  In her memoirs, she documents her incredible journey deep into the heart of Africa and into her soul.  It is a heartfelt story full of love and emotion, loss and sorrow.  I have recently had the privilege and honor of helping edit and providing feedback to Maryline on her biography, a copy of which you can pre-order on her website.

I try not to make my blog commercialized and understand how frustrating it is to constantly get pop-ups scrolling through web pages. However, I do partner with brands I know and trust.  So, if you’re already looking to make purchases anyway, please use these links which earn me a small commission. Happy shopping!

Expedia – Flights, rental cars, stays, even cruises

REI – Outdoor gear and clothing

Eco Roots – Eco-friendly products - ditch plastics for shampoo and conditioner bars, bamboo toothbrushes and other household items

Earth Breeze – Laundry detergent sheets - do away with plastic bottles
